Following significant investment and continued growth, they are expanding their Research & Development team and are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to play a key role in the development of cutting edge hydrogen power systems.

Working within the R&D team, you’ll primarily focus on the design and development of mechanical components and systems for hydrogen power units, with a particular emphasis on high-pressure hydrogen systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Developing mechanical designs from initial concepts through to detailed design, based on project specifications and requirements.
• Designing small bore pipework systems and selecting suitable components, including valves, regulators, safety devices and materials.
• Carrying out engineering calculations to ensure designs are safe, fit for purpose and meet the required specifications, including pipe sizing, wall thickness and regulator sizing.
• Leading the procurement of prototype and one-off systems, overseeing their build and supporting testing and evaluation.
• Working with electrical, instrumentation and other engineering teams to ensure mechanical designs integrate effectively into the overall product.
• Supporting the development of other mechanical subsystems as part of the wider team and contributing to new product development.
• Leading and participating in design reviews to ensure designs meet technical, safety and performance requirements.
• Working on-site to oversee the build and installation of mechanical systems and equipment.
• Testing and verifying the performance of designs, systems and components, identifying issues and implementing improvements where required.
• Supporting the introduction of new systems to customers and internal teams, including preparing technical documentation, providing training and assisting with troubleshooting.

What We’re Looking For

• Solid foundation of general Mechanical Engineering principles. 
• A 1^st Class Degree in Mechanical Engineering 
• Experience of high pressure pipework/small bore tube systems. Desirably with hydrogen. 
• Understanding of standards and directives relating to high pressure piping systems (e.g. ASME B31.3, BS EN 13480, PED). 
• Be able to read and produce schematic drawings (P&ID drawings) 
• Proficient in 3D modelling, and able to read and produce manufacturing drawings 
• If you can use Inventor this is a bonus but experience with other 3D modelling software systems is desirable.

Working within a multidisciplinary R&D team, you’ll act as a technical authority, leading the development of advanced electrical systems from concept through to validation.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll be applying first-principles engineering to solve challenging technical problems, whilst supporting the development of world-leading hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead electrical engineering activities across research and development projects.
• Develop innovative electrical engineering solutions using first-principles engineering.
• Design, analyse and validate electrical power systems.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Work closely with mechanical and controls engineers to develop integrated solutions.
• Support the development of LV, MV and HV electrical systems.
• Prepare and present technical proposals and engineering concepts.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and directives.
• Support prototype development, testing and product validation.
• Drive continuous technical improvement and innovation across new product development.

What We’re Looking For

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics or Mathematics.
• Strong electrical engineering knowledge with the ability to solve complex engineering problems from first principles.
• Around 10 years’ experience within electrical engineering, research & development or advanced product development.
• Experience designing or developing LV, MV or HV electrical power systems.
• Ability to work independently and lead technical development activities.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex engineering concepts.
• Passion for renewable energy, hydrogen technology or zero-emission engineering.

Desirable Experience

• First Class Degree, PhD or equivalent.
• 10 years industry experience
• Knowledge of hydrogen fuel cell technology.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng), or working towards Chartered status.
• Experience working within highly regulated engineering environments.
• Experience working across electrical, mechanical and control system disciplines.

Our client has grown to become one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of wheat derivatives such as starches, sweeteners, proteins and alcohol for major food and industrial sectors worldwide. 

They are looking for an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to join their growing Engineering maintenance and operations team.

This individual will provide instrumentation; repair and maintenance service, and will operate the Electrical Generation Plant, Peaking Generators, Steam Raising Plant and Water Treatment Plant in an efficient, safe manner monitoring plant conditions and keeping operating costs to a minimum.

Key activities and Responsibilities of a Instrumentation Engineer:

• Run the day to day operations of Boilers, Gas Turbines (CHP plants) and Reverse Osmosis skids
• Monitoring boiler and water treatment plant and adjusting settings as conditions require.
• Monitoring running conditions of the burning of process gas and adjusting fuel combinations
• to suit steam requirements and process gas availability. Planning by liaison with Production regarding the steam availability and requirement and under certain conditions the level of electricity which is available for site usage.
• Liaison with Engineering and Production departments regarding breakdowns and routine maintenance.
• Effectively carry out planned, predictive and reactive electrical maintenance of the plant, ensuring that all equipment is maintained correctively and in a timely manner in order for production to operate efficiently
• Fault finding, Testing, Calibration, Installation & Commissioning of our broad range of process instrumentation
• Carry out fault diagnosis and rectification solutions.
• Electrical installation and commissioning of new and repaired machinery and equipment;

Skills & Knowledge of a Instrumentation EngineerEngineer:

• A recognised C&I engineering apprenticeship ideally gained in a heavy process industry
• Higher National Certificate (HNC) in an instrumentation discipline is desirable or the ability to demonstrate suitable experience in a similar role
• Instrumentation diagnosing/fault finding
• Carrying out instrumentation repairs/replacement
• Experience in an instrumentation maintenance
• HV switching and operations experience or willingness to learn it (training provided)
• Experience in running operation on CHP plants or willingness to learn it (training provided)
